The Prince's Countryside Fund open for applications

The Prince’s Countryside Fund opened this week to applications from organisations and charities that are helping rural communities across the UK.
After a winter of exceptionally wet weather which has had a devastating impact on the country’s rural communities, the Prince’s Countryside Fund is particularly interested in helping regions affected by the recent flooding.
For the March-April 2014 round, additional funds will be available to help these areas. The Fund is actively seeking applications from organisations that are supporting victims of flooding or working on projects focused on recovery and resilience in rural areas, particularly Somerset.
The Prince’s Countryside Fund Director Dawn Howard said:
“This year, we have additional funds to help regions affected by the recent and severe flooding. We are actively seeking applications from organisations that are supporting victims of flooding or working on projects focused on recovery and resilience in rural areas, particularly Somerset. One of the most devastating consequences of flooding is the length of time it takes to recover and we’re looking to help farms and businesses cope with the long term consequences.”
The total amount of funding available in this round of funding is up to £750,000. The maximum level of funding for individual projects is £50,000. There is no minimum. The Fund can pay for a portion or the entirety of the costs of a project.
Projects for this spring round should address at least one of the following four issues:
§  Rural isolation.
§  Decline of rural communities.
§  Low farming incomes.
§  Lack of access to training.
The Prince’s Countryside Fund is looking to fund projects that will have a lasting positive impact on rural communities.
Applications that address the following issues will be considered:
§  Improving service provision in rural areas.
§  Supporting rural enterprise.
§  Supporting farming businesses.
§  Providing training opportunities for young people.
Applications related to recovery and resilience as a result of flooding will need to address the issues listed above.
Dawn Howard said:
“We’re looking for innovative ideas of how to assist the recovery and nurture the resilience of rural communities.”
The deadline for applications is 10 April 2014.
Full details and an online application form can be found on the Prince's Countryside Fund website

The competition opens today for entries from voluntary and community groups, local authorities, schools, statutory health bodies and branches of organisations or partnerships.

Running since 2005, the People’s Millions is an annual TV competition run by the Big Lottery Fund and ITV News which awards Lottery funding to community projects that improve the lives of local people.

Applications can be made for any amount from £20,000 to £50,000 as long as it is at least half of the total cost of the proposed project which must cost between £20,000 and £100,000 including any VAT that cannot be recovered.
Peter Ainsworth, Chair of Big Lottery Fund said:

Arts Council of Wales Advises Dates for 2014/15

The Arts Council Wales has announced that it is taking a different approach to publishing its funding guidelines for 2014/15.
Rather than publish the new guidelines and application forms at the beginning of the financial year, this year the Arts Council will first publish its new five-year strategy “Creativity and the Arts” and then the new documents.
Groups who want to apply for the following funds should continue to use the 2013/14 guidelines and application forms until the new forms are available.
The following funds will be available for application this year:
Arts Grants for Organisations
§  Small Grants applications can still be submitted at any time with a decision within six working weeks.
§  Large Grants application can still be submitted by one of the four deadlines over the year with a decision within nine working weeks of the following closing dates: 9 May, 15 August, 10 October, 23 January 2015.
National Touring applications can only be submitted in October and January and the application forms will be available later in the year.
The plans for the Creative Wales Awards and Creative Wales Ambassadors will be confirmed at the beginning of April 2014.
The Arts Council of Wales will also be holding 40-minute funding advice sessions across Wales so that organisations can discuss their project ideas and ask questions. Information officers will be able to offer guidance on eligibility and how best to apply for a grant. It is necessary to book a session in advance by contacting the Arts Council’s Information team by email or by phone (0845 8734 9000).
