The event will focus on the necessary requirements and challenges of bidding for work collaboratively, and gaining an appreciation of how to overcome these challenges effectively.

The Wales Co-operative Centre provides advice to businesses on suitable business models, organisational and legal structures; advice and support with governance issues; business and financial planning advice and support; finding finance and helping to access grant funding where appropriate; support with HR issues; training and mentoring; and support with developing important equalities strategies and environmental management systems.

Business Wales is the Welsh Government’s business support mechanism.  It is a dedicated service that provides businesses, social enterprises and charities with information, guidance and support directly, and from the private, public and third sector.  The service can be accessed by phone, online and through a network of eleven one stop shops located around Wales.

COMMUNITY CHEST GRANTS

Grants available to develop grassroots sport throughout Powys

Sports and physical activity groups in Powys are being urged to take advantage of a grant worth up to £1,500 to help contribute to creating thriving clubs which will continue to create opportunities through good enterprise and innovation.  In addition clubs and organisations have the opportunity to apply for an additional £1500 to target the following key areas:

o       Better preparing clubs to cater for interest generated via 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, and to prepare for demand leading up to Glasgow 2014 and beyond

o       Tackling inequality - BME, disability(inclusion), women & girls, social inclusion

Over £74,000 has been awarded to local community sports clubs so far this financial year.

The grants are available through the Sportlot Community Chest, the Sports Council for Wales National Lottery funded grant aid scheme, which is designed to make a difference to sport and physical activity locally.

With just over £25,000 still available for this financial year, Powys County Council are urging organisations to submit applications so they don’t miss out on the grant.

Rethinking Parks

The programme has been launched by Nesta, the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Big Lottery Fund.

Voluntary and community sector organisations and public sector organisations from across the UK may apply for grants of between £50,001 and £100,000 as well as nonfinancial support to carry out their innovative ideas to make the UK's public parks financially sustainable.

The grants programme will help park managers and those responsible for park funding and maintenance to test new options for generating income and managing their park. Grants can be used to fund new staff, external consultancy and advice, training for staff and volunteers, publicity and marketing, equipment and limited capital works.

Nesta has published a report, Rethinking Parks: Exploring New Business Models for Parks in the 21st Century, to coincide with the launch of the programme.

The report looks at existing ideas and innovations for managing parks across the programme’s four themes:

• To support changes in park management and maintenance systems.
• To encourage new organisational partnerships.
• To identify more diverse sources of funding and resources.
• To explore new uses and activities within parks.

There is a two stage application process.

The first stage is a series of free workshops and training sessions, which organisations are strongly encouraged to attend. The free workshops will be held in January 2014 to provide information about how to submit an Expression of Interest for funding.

The workshops are currently scheduled for:

• London - 14 January.
• Edinburgh - 23 January.
• Cardiff - 28 January.
• Belfast - 30 January.

Those who cannot attend these workshops may attend an online workshop on either 16 January or 21 January.

Shortlisted organisations from Stage 1 will be invited to attend a practical innovation workshop in March 2014. Expressions of Interest will be reviewed and shortlisted organisations invited to submit a proposal.

The second stage will see shortlisted organisations submitting their full proposals in April 2014. Grant recipients will have 18 months (from July 2014 to December 2015) to implement their innovations.
