MUSIC IN THE COMMUNITY GRANTS

The Music in the Community grants programme is provided by Music for All, the charity of the UK musical instrument industry. Music for All's overarching objective is to “make more musicians and to enable and inspire more people to discover their mental and physical benefits that playing a musical instrument can bring'”. It aims to achieve this by providing small grants to local initiatives across the UK that are seeking to bring music to their local community. Funding is available for groups that need assistance to fulfil their potential in developing genuinely sustainable music programmes. Grants can be used for: o Musical instrument costs; o Using music to break down barriers; o Providing a variety of educational opportunities; and o Helping to find ways to integrate many diverse and minority groups positively into society. The following types of UK-based organisations may apply for a grant of up to £2,500: o Schools; o Registered charities; o Charitable community groups. Music for All aims to allocate around £50,000 in grants annually. There is no match funding requirement. The following are not eligible for funding: o Retrospective costs; o Applicants based outside of the UK and Ireland, and o Applicants who have been awarded a grant in the last 12 months. There are three application deadlines each year. The next deadline is Sunday 1 July for projects to start from September the same year. The following deadline is Thursday 1 November for projects to commence in January 2019, The deadline after this is Friday 1 February for projects that should start from April 2019. Open4Community Powys Funding Portal

We are contacting you to inform you that the commissioning of our current funding portal provider, IDOX, will end on 31^st March 2018.  You may already have received an e-mail from IDOX informing you of this.

We are delighted to inform you that, together with Third Sector Support Wales partners (CVCs & WCVA) we are developing a new, bespoke portal for Wales. We aim to have the new system available by September 2018.

The new system will enable users to:

·                     Have a simple login and registration

·                     View the most recently updated funds

·                     Produce a summary list of fund results

·                     Read detailed fund information pages

·                     Download PDFs of fund information pages

·                     Save searches

·                     Create a “shopping list” of funds and create reports

·                     Receive email alerts on selected searches

·                     Receive regular funding bulletins

In the interim period, PAVO has subscribed to a temporary provision and Development Officers will be able to undertake funding searches on your behalf, whilst we await the arrival of the new system.

GREGGS FOUNDATION - LOCAL COMMUNITY PROJECTS

The Greggs Foundation’s Local Community Projects Fundprovides small grants for projects that improve resilience within a community of interest; i.e. a community of people who share a common interest or passion, such as:

o People who are disabled or with a chronic illness;
o Living in poverty;
o Voluntary carers;
o Homeless;
o Isolated older people; or
o Other demonstrable significant need.

The Foundation is interested in new approaches and innovative ideas as well as sustainable approaches to supporting the community of interest.

Not-for-profit organisations in England, Wales and Scotland may apply for a grant of up to £2,000.

There is no match funding requirement.

Approximately 1 in 4 applications are successful. Organisations with a turnover of £300,000 or more are unlikely to be awarded a grant. Similarly, organisations with more than six months running costs in a cash reserve are also unlikely to secure grant support.

Grants can cover sessional activities, respite support, equipment, trips and residential breaks.

Successful applicants should be able to demonstrate improvements against at least one of the Foundation's following Key Performance Targets:

o Beneficiaries have reduced social isolation;
o Beneficiaries report improved health and wellbeing;
o Beneficiaries report improved resilience/coping mechanisms;
o Beneficiaries have improved life skills; and
o Beneficiaries have improved opportunities.

Funding is not available for:

o Ongoing running costs;
o Continuation of existing and ongoing work;
o Contributions towards larger projects/fundraising appeals;
o Animal charities;
o "Friends of" associations;
o Uniformed groups such as scouts, guides and sea cadets;
o Sports clubs and associations;
o Overseas travel;
o Curricular activities that take place during the school day;
o Religious promotion;
o Research grants;
o Repayment of loans;
o Purchase of vehicles;
o Medical equipment;
o Major capital projects; or
o Sponsorship of events or activities.

The second and final deadline for the Local Community Projects Fund this year is midnight on Friday 22 June.

Successful applicants will be announced by Friday 17 August 2018.

COMIC RELIEF - SAFE SECURE AND SETTLED FUND

The Safe, Secure and Settled Fund a new £4 million grant programme that forms part of Comic Relief's Sport for Change programme.

The programme aims to improve the lives of young people aged up to 25 years that lack a safe or secure place to live and help them gain the skills and resources to lead safe and positive lives.

The funding will support projects in the UK, India, South Africa, Brazil and Kenya.

UK based not-for-profit organisations may apply for a grant of between £100,000 and £500,000 for between 2 and 4 years.

Applications for work in India, South Africa, Brazil or Kenya can be made by a locally registered organisation directly delivering the project or in partnership with a UK-based organisation.

Projects should take a creative approach, using sport as a tool for social change in their approach and contribute to at least one of the following outcomes:

o Children and young people increase and/or sustain their engagement with education;
o Children and young people have increased pathways into training or employment;
o More children and young people have a safe and supportive network or trusted place to go for advice; and/or
o Children and young people increase life skills, for example money management, daily living skills, legal rights, problem solving, creative thinking, communication, interpersonal relationships, mindfulness, assertiveness, empathy, coping with stress, trauma and loss, resilience.

Proposals will need to:

o Go above and beyond confidence building and be able to demonstrate how sport can be used to achieve positive social change; and
o Demonstrate wider social outcomes and not just focus on increasing participation in sport for the physical health benefits.

Applicants should read the short guide published by Comic Relief to ensure they understand what makes a good Sport for Change project.

Proposals will be accepted from 22 March 2018 until midday on Thursday 14 June 2018.

There is a two-stage application process. Groups with the strongest proposals will be shortlisted to go through to full application.

PRS FOUNDATION OPEN FUND

The Performing Rights Society’s Open Fund for Organisations grant programme supports the creation, performance and promotion of new music and to enable songwriters, composers, artists, bands and performers of all backgrounds to develop creatively and professionally.

Priority will be given to projects that fit with all 3 of the Foundation's funding priorities:

1.  To support the creation, performance and promotion of outstanding new music in any genre (the Foundation is particularly interested in the quality of the music);
2.  To enable the UK’s most talented music creators to realise their potential (the Foundation is interested in how projects will develop the songwriters and composers involved and is committed to supporting UK-based songwriters and composers of all backgrounds); and
3. To inspire audiences Applicants will be asked to outline who they are reaching and how. This includes audiences at a local, regional, national or international level.

Grants up to £10,000 are available. 

Applications are accepted from any not-for-profit organisations based in the UK with an eligible project and can be made by:

o Promoters;
o Festivals;
o Orchestras and large ensembles (including orchestras, choirs, jazz bands or folk groups with 12 or more performers); o Talent development or composer development organisations;
o Venues;
o Curators;
o Organisations that are limited by guarantee and/or a registered Charity;
o CIC organisations;
o Non-music organisations including local authorities, museums, etc.

Eligible activities include:

o Touring;
o Recording;
o Promotion and marketing;
o Commissions of new music by UK-based creators;
o Exciting community projects involving high-quality music creators;
o Music creator residencies;
o Live programmes featuring new UK music;
o Programmes that strongly feature or are based around new music (for example, promoting a series of live events featuring outstanding new music, the new music component of a festival programme, artist/composer/talent development programme or multiple commissions);
o Equipment/rehearsal space hire if it is an essential part of the project;
o Administrative costs (for example, time spent organising the project, letters, printing, stamps);
o Development time (for example, the time it will take the music creator to work on the new material);
o Promotional activity/PR costs relating directly to the applicant's development as a music creator/the project;
o Website creation (but only if crucial to the promotion of the project);
o Music videos when part of wider project activity;
o Musician fees (the PRS Foundation will not fund a project if the applicant does not pay their musicians);
o Contingency (up to 10% of the total project budget); and/or
o Concerts, record launches, gigs, tours, installations, festivals and promoters which feature a significant programme of new UK music.

The following are not eligible for funding:

o Individuals in full-time education (unless an exception is made by the Grants Team);
o Under 18s, unless represented by an adult with a valid DBS check;
o Projects where the lead composer/songwriter is a member of another performance rights collection societies (i.e. UK based music creator must either be a member of PRS or should be in a position to join);
o Companies limited by shares (although these are considered on a case-by-case basis);
o Projects that contain no element of live performance or creation;
o Technology projects (unless they contain a significant aspect of new music creation);
o The purchase of vans and cars;
o Bursaries, tuition/education costs, or scholarships;
o Capital projects (eg building work);
o Any project raising funds for another charity;
o Purchasing equipment;
o Organisations or projects that have been running for less than 18 months;
o Retrospective activity or that falls before the application decision date;
o Organisations based outside the UK;
o British music creators no longer permanently resident in the UK;
o International tours/international activity unless part of a majority UK-based project;
o Radio stations/broadcasting costs;
o Start-up companies or record labels;
o A roster of artists on a record label;
o Living costs;
o Salary costs; or
o Core funding.

There is a 2-stage application process for the Open Programme.

The remaining deadlines for Stage 1 applications during 2018 are:

o 6pm on Monday 11 June; and
o 6pm on Monday 1 October.

Successful applicants at Stage 1 will be invited to complete a full application at Stage 2.
