BBC Children in Need Main Grants Programme – Imminent Deadline

BBC Children in Need is currently accepting applications accepting applications from not-for-profit groups and organisations in the UK, the Isle of Man or the Channel Islands.

BBC Children in Need is providing grants of over £10,000 to support projects for up to three years to not-for-profit organisations that work with children and young people of 18 years and under who are experiencing disadvantage through:

• Illness, distress, abuse or neglect.
• Any kind of disability.
• Behavioural or psychological difficulties.
• Living in poverty or situations of deprivation.

Organisations must be working to combat this disadvantage and to make a real difference to children and young people's lives.

There is no upper limit for Main Grants but very few grants over £120,000 (or £40,000 per year) are made and most grants are for much less.

The next deadline for applications is 19 January 2017.

Barchester Healthcare Foundation Continues its 2016 Priority in 2017.

Barchester Healthcare Foundation is continuing its 2016 priority to combat loneliness and engage older or disabled people.

Barchester Healthcare Foundation is accepting applications from small community groups and small local groups helping adults aged over 18 with mental and physical disabilities, and older people aged over 65.

Barchester’s Charitable Foundation is a registered charity based in London. It was created by Barchester Healthcare in 2000 to give something back to communities where the Barchester care homes operate.

The Foundation's priority is continued from 2016: connecting or re-connecting people with others in their local community. Applications that combat loneliness and enable people to be active and engaged will receive the highest priority throughout the year.

Grants of between £100 and £5,000 are available to groups in England, Scotland and Wales.

Applications can be submitted online at any time.

Postcode Local Trust Makes Changes for 2017

The Postcode Local Trust has announced that there will be two grant rounds in 2017, with a two stage application process.

The Postcode Local Trust, established in 2015, operates its own society lottery and receives all of its funding from players of People's Postcode Lottery. The Trust was created to provide financial support for charities and good causes which help communities enhance their natural environment in a way that benefits the wider community.

In 2017 Postcode Local Trust will fund projects that are of local importance across Great Britain which support wildlife areas, sustainability initiatives, local indoor and outdoor spaces and citizenship (local volunteering projects).

Registered charities in England and Scotland can apply for grants of between £500 and £20,000, and those in Wales can apply for grants of between £500 and £10,000. Grants of up to £2,000 are available to other not-for-profit organisations that do not have a registered charity number.

The grants will be for the following types of activities:

• Enhancing outdoor spaces such as:
  • Community gardens.
  • Community orchards.
  • Play areas, especially those made with sustainable wood sources or recycled materials.
• Local, biodiversity improvements or habitat restoration such as:
  • Wildflower meadow creation.
  • Flood prevention schemes.
  • Hedgerow boundary improvements.
  • Wetland area enhancements.
  • Tree planting/woodland creation.
• Outdoor education projects delivered with local communities by environmental charities.
• Green Energy projects which create more sustainable solutions to lowering, eg, energy costs in a community centre.
• Solar panel, wind turbine or micro-hydro schemes.
• Cultural heritage of an area (stories, exhibitions).
• Volunteering initiatives that help local projects, local areas and local people through, for example, uniform youth organisations.

Please note that this is a 'vastly' oversubscribed fund, and groups are strongly encouraged to read the new guidance document which can be found on the Trust's website.

There will be two grant rounds in 2017, with a two stage application process.

• Round 1 Expressions of interest: 23 January 2017 to 10 February 2017.
• Round 2 Expressions of interest: 01 August 2017 to 18 August 2017.

PQASSO ESSENTIALS PILOT

PQASSO Essentials pilot

PQASSO helps third sector organisations take a systematic look at what they do, identify areas where they are doing well and not so well, and decide exactly where improvements are needed.

PQASSO covers all aspects of an organisation's work including governance, planning, leadership and management, managing people, managing money and outcomes and impact. Once an organisation has implemented PQASSO it can apply for the PQASSO Quality Mark, the external accreditation for PQASSO, which shows that the organisation has achieved the PQASSO quality standard at a particular level.

PQASSO Essentials is intended to help smaller, third sector groups and organisations that:

• May never have reviewed their whole group or organisation and that want to do a basic 'health check' to know which areas they need to develop and strengthen
• Want to start to introduce and embed quality and continuous improvement in their work
• Need a framework to support the development of their group or organisation, and 
• Want to be more effective and efficient in how they work.
