LankellyChase Foundation - Launch of New Grant Programme (UK)

The LankellyChase Foundation is now focused exclusively on bringing about change that will transform the quality of life of people who face severe and multiple disadvantage. By severe and multiple disadvantage the Foundation particularly means the persistent interlocking of homelessness, substance misuse, mental and physical illness, violence and abuse and extreme poverty.

The Foundation wants to build a growing network of funded organisations, with 15 to 20 organisations funded in this first grant round. Funded organisations will be brought together on a regular basis (two to three times per year) to exchange knowledge, as well as connecting them with key thinkers and decision makers. Therefore, applicant organisations should be prepared to work in an open, problem solving way and to share their work with others.

The Foundation offers either project funding to enable organisations to pursue specific ideas or core funding to support the overall strategies of organisations. Most grants will be for one, two or three years but funding may be available over a longer period where there is a strong case. The size of grant offered ranges from large (approximately £150,000 spread over a number of years) to very small, depending on the proposition.

Funding is available for the following:

• Work that promotes people’s voice, power and rights.
• Existing positive practice and its evaluation.
• The development and evaluation of new and innovative ways of working.
• Work that promotes systems change at local and/or national level.
• Work that builds the social and economic case for change.

Registered charities, community interest companies, companies limited by guarantee without shares and industrial and provident societies in the UK are eligible to apply.

The first stage deadline for applications is 14 September 2012.

Powys Small Health Grant Scheme 2012-13

We have opened a second round of applications for the Powys Small Health Grant Scheme 2012-13.

Grants of up to £1,000 are available to voluntary and community groups to support and empower individuals in Powys whose independence is compromised by chronic illness, disability or by a recent stay in hospital.  Projects should work WITH these individuals, not simply provide services to or for them.

The deadline for second round applications is Friday 21^st September 2012.  Groups wishing to apply will have to go through a funding health check with a PAVO Development Officer - applications without a funding health check will not be considered.

Small Grants for Powys Youth Volunteering

Individuals and groups can gain a grant, in the region of, £250 to
support young people’s volunteering.  The application must be
submitted by a young person aged 14-25 years.

Project proposals must demonstrate:
•       how organisations will involve young people aged 14 – 25 in                                                                                 
        developing their voluntary activities.  A minimum of 4 young people,
        aged 14 – 25 need to be involved when submitting a Youth Led Grant
        Scheme application but the project can involve anyone.
•       how they will deliver new, high quality volunteering experiences
•       how they will approach and attract young people, particularly those
         that are disadvantaged or excluded.

Some examples of projects that have been supported in the past include:
•       Young people carrying out wood recycling work and making new
         equipment for their school.
•       Buying promotional materials and recruiting new members for a small
         young farmers’ club.
•       Camping equipment to enable young people to complete outdoor trips
•       Young people learning life-saving skills using defibrillators.

Well Being Activity Grant 2012/13

The aim of the grant is to support the priority areas outlined within the Powys Public Health Strategic Framework and be core to the Our Healthy Future priority areas for action:

v  Reducing smoking prevalence

v  Increasing physical activity and healthy eating

v  Reducing the harm associated with alcohol and substance  misuse

v  Reduce the number of teenage pregnancies

v  Increase health in the workplace

v  Increase immunisation and vaccination rates

v  Reducing accidents and injuries

v  Increasing mental well-being

v  Reducing inequities in health

Partners are invited to bid for £1,000 - £5,000. Previously partners have been offered part-funded towards their application, please consider how you would implement and manage your project if you were offered part-funding.

The grant cannot be used to:

• Fund salary costs.

• Fund the training of statutory, public or private employees; however payment for training third sector employees and volunteers to deliver health improvement or protection work is permitted.
• Part- fund an activity or project that is already receiving funding from the Welsh Government.  However it can be used to undertake work that is in addition to an existing commitment or to communicate an activity which is receiving funding from the Welsh Government.
• Commission a consultant to advise on a strategy, action plan, programme or project.
• Fund public sector policy development, conferences, workshops or meetings.

Closing date for receipt of applications: Friday 7^th September 2012

EDF ENERGY GREEN FUND

Not-for-profit organisations, including registered charities, local community buildings, schools, universities, museums, and churches in England, Scotland and Wales can apply for funding to help cover the costs of renewable energy technology.

Any generation technology which produces heat, electricity or other power from the sun, wind, water, wood or another renewable source is eligible, provided it has passed a successful trial phase.

Grants of up to 50% of total project costs to a maximum of £30,000 (excluding VAT) are available.

The application rounds close at the end of August and February every year.

The next deadline for applications is 31 August 2012.

Young Carers Can - Funding Opportunity

Young Carers Can...!

Carers Trust is delighted to launch the Young Carers Can… programme, open to any Third Sector/not for profit organisation who wishes to provide support activities for young carers across the UK.

Carers Trust are providing grants of up to £2,500 to provide fun, social and structured activities that will tackle social exclusion and improve the self-esteem of young carers living in their local area.

CHILDREN IN NEED - GRANT PROCESS CHANGING FOR 2013

There are just two rounds left, until Children in Need makes changes to the way it delivers grants in Wales.

Small grants of up to £10,000 are still available for up to three years, whilst the main grants scheme will still fund projects of over £10,000 for three years.  Application rounds close on the 15th July and the 15th October 2012, so this will be your last opportunity to access funding in this way.

More National Lottery Good Causes Nomination for Powys

Two other Powys organisation have been nominated for the National Lottery Good Causes Awards.
Melin Talgarth Mill is in the Heritage category.  Talgarth Mill Green Energy Project took a disused watermill in mid Wales and set the heart of village beating once again. They created a tourist attraction, educational centre, community meeting place and cafe.


WISE based at the Centre for Alternative technology in Machynlleth has been nominated under the environment category.  WISE educates thousands of people each year who visit the centre and gain the skills and motivation to adopt sustainable living and working practices.

GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) IMPACT Awards - Open to Applications

The IMPACT Awards recognise and reward small to medium-sized charities in the UK that are doing excellent work to improve people's health. Applicants must target community health needs in the UK and have a track record of achievement in this area.

The Awards recognise excellence in existing work and do not seek to fund new projects. Applications should meet the following assessment criteria which focus on six areas of impact:

• Innovation: Leadership, creativity and initiative in addressing current challenges in healthcare access and delivery.
• Management: Efficient use of resources; quality of management processes; equality of opportunity; clear objectives and plans; strength and financial effectiveness of the organisation.
• Partnership: Working effectively with others (members, users, private and public sector partners, etc.); willingness to share 'best practice' and to learn from others.
• Achievement: Measurable results achieved; numbers of people benefited; impact on access to healthcare; a reflective approach to evaluation of the work; measurement and monitoring of performance.
• Community focus: Involving and responding to users and the community; openness and provision of information; adaptability to changing circumstances and needs.
• Targeting needs: Awareness of community issues and priorities and having a detailed understanding of the target community; ensuring services are accessible to, and focus on, people in need.

Up to ten winners will receive £30,000 unrestricted funding with one overall winner receiving an extra £10,000. Winners will also receive free training valued at £4,000, a specially commissioned professional film and photographs along with publicity and press support. Up to ten runners-up will receive £3,000.

The deadline for applications is 21 September 2012 (5pm).

SPORTED GRANTS HELPING CHANGE YOUNG LIVES THROUGH SPORT

Sported, the UK’s leading sport for development charity, has announced the its next round of Small Grants opening on the 1^st July 2012 for Sported Members in Wales.

Membership of Sported is free and open to not-for-profit groups who are changing young lives through sport.  Being a Member of Sported offers a number of benefits including the opportunity to apply to the Small Grants Scheme, a one-off grant of up to £2000.

Richard Thomas the Wales Manager for Sported said “This is a great opportunity for groups here in Wales to benefit from the Small Grants Scheme. Sported already over 1000 organisations across the UK to deliver positive outcomes including reducing crime and antisocial behaviour, removing barriers to participation for excluded groups, educating in health and wellbeing, building stronger communities and providing young people with skills for work place and life.”

A free membership organisation created to help deliver a sporting legacy from the 2012 Olympics,  Sported helps to transform the lives of disadvantaged youth by supporting community and voluntary groups delivering sport for development; helping them grow and run their organisations to the best of their ability. Mid Wales Food and Land Trust Lottery success

Congratulations to Mid Wales Food and land Trust on their successful Lottery application:
Mid Wales Food and Land Trust Limited will use their award of £777,958 to acquire Newtown Market Hall. Once completed, the centre will offer flexible short term leases to small businesses, with options to increase and decrease leases to accomodate business growth and to help small businesses to manage periods of economic pressure respectively.  The project will also establish two new social enterprises.  

Expressing her delight at the news, Catherine Smith, the Executive Director and theTrust’s Company Secretary, said: “This is excellent news for the Market Hall project and for Newtown. In addition to supporting local small businesses, restoration of this Grade II listed building will provide a real boost for town centre regeneration.”

Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales - Older People Programme Open to Applications

The Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales has launched a new £2 million funding programme.

Grants of over £50,000 for up to three year are available to registered charities that are currently working with older people experiencing financial difficulties in England and Wales.

Applications must be for work that improves the life choices and chances for older people and:

• Offers a sustained programme of support.
• Demonstrates measurable changes and benefits for individuals.

Projects must meet at least one of the following criteria:

• Are innovative and push existing boundaries.
• Will extend or replicate a proven model of working to deliver the goals as outlined.
• Will improve joined up working with other local agencies to deliver more relevant and appropriate services to the users including personalisation.
• Support service user involvement and encourages local connections whether in design or support as peers /volunteers/mentors.

The deadline for Expressions of Interest is 20 September 2012 (5pm).
