We always encourage groups to contact funders to discuss their projects, to check eligibility and criteria. Having spoken to a funder on behalf of a group this week, I would reinforce this message again. He was extremely helpful and approachable, and asked me to encourage the group to contact him themselves. It made me think that perhaps sometimes we have a preconceived idea that funders may be unapproachable. Most funders I have spoken to would say 'get groups to contact us, we are here to help'.
So if a funder advertises their phone number, give them a ring and have a chat. They are there to help, and it could make all the difference.
