The first phase of the Powys Rural Development Plan (2007 - 2013), is drawing to a close. As part of the Plan, PAVO secured £300,000 to distribute to community and voluntary groups in Powys, who wanted to improve facilities available to the community, whilst taking account of their needs and aspirations. 13 groups were successfully awarded funding, but its fair to say that we could have awarded the available money four times over, as demand was so high for the scheme.
I have recently been pulling together all the monitoring, photos etc., from all the groups, and their achievements have far exceeded my expectations. Looking at before and after photos, really shows just what a difference this scheme has made, both in the short term and the long term. I have also been privileged to work with some fantastic community groups, making a real difference to the lives of those living there. Their passion and enthusiasm has been infectious!
As a Development Officer it has been extremely rewarding to see these projects go through from start to finish. As Development Officers, we often meet groups at a particular time and need, specific to them. We may not hear from them again, as we have supported them to resolve that particular issue, and that is part and parcel of development work.
The scheme is a successful illustration of how PAVO supports voluntary and community groups in Powys, and it has been hugely satisfying to have been able to deliver it so effectively.
