Penrhos Tenants celebrate allotments opening

The rain clouds could not dampen the spirits of the Penrhos Tenants and Residents Association in Ystradgynlais, as they officially opened their community allotments at the Penrhos Estate on the 29th June 2010.

The Tenants Association had been successful in gaining funding from the Community Renewal Grant Scheme, delivered by Powys Association of Voluntary Organisations (PAVO) as part of the Powys Rural Development Plan 2007-2013. The scheme supported local community projects that took account of a community’s needs and aspirations, improved the level of facilities available and provided a sense of place.

The hard work and community effort was evident as the area has been transformed into an impressive display of allotments filled with growing vegetables and fruit, and there was a palpable sense of pride from the allotment owners and committee.

Joyce Thomas, Chair of the Tenants and Residents Association said:

“This project would not have happened without this funding. We have worked in partnership with the agencies and contractor as a team, to achieve this fantastic community project. We are absolutely delighted to see our plans come to fruition”.

The group is also currently finishing an accessible fishing platform that was also funded by the scheme.
